My Absence

11/02/2011

Hi Everyone-

My apologies for not having updated the site in the last month or two. I have received tons of the usual positive feedback and I really appreciate the support the project has been getting from the community.

For the last couple weeks real life has taken the priority (as it often does), most recently in the form of learning to fly one of these:

I am of course still working on YVR, and will post new updates soon. Stay Tuned!

I’ve been following your blog, Jonathan, for the last two years, and my pleasant anticipation for my first long haul flight to YVR is growing larger ever since :)
Just wanted to say thank you so much for dedicating your freetime to the FS-community with this awesome project! That is so much appreciated, I wish I had the talent to do all this. Your name in the top-addons-list is assured!

Positive feedback, you got it! I actually flew with someone on Vatsim not to long ago that flys the Metroliner out of YWG, we raced from YWG-YYZ, I was in a 727 against a 321, didn’t turn out to good. I landed about half an hour after his arrival. :)

    Hello Jonathan.
I am reading your blog since last year and I am wondering when the release or upload for the YVR.
I usually use Japan Airlines between NRT-YVR for business and I was hoping to control PMDG 747 fron NRT-YVR before JAL 744 retires….. right now, flight between NRT-YVR changed from 744 to 772ER.

anyways, I think your scenery looks fantastic and I am really excited for the release!
    *Sorry for bad grammar.

    Hi Johnny,

I have been waiting for this scenery a long time and seems my pain will go nowhere as the sceny is still under construction. According to the pictures you provided, it looks to me acceptable if you just share it as is. In later time, maybe you can add some updates for improvement.

    What do you think?

A letter to a fellow countryman

    Dear Mr Gabbert,

27 months ago, you decided to work alone on the Vancouver airport, in British Columbia. Months after months, you succeed in assembling this heavy airport (CYVZ), showing us your progress with impressive screenshots../.

No doubt, this is a meticulous craftwork.

Let me recall that the flight sim market has its own evolution, platforms eventually changes, new players come and impose new standards. You don’t wish your scenery to become an antique, finally shown and admired by yourself only.

According to the pictures on your blog, the airport of Vancouver is at 80-85 % finished. So, Mister Gabbert, John, no pressure, just my encouragements for this 15% of remaining work.

    Dom Mason

John Gabbert start Vancouver airport and surroundings for FS9 in october 2008.

His blog shows the progress step by step ; http://jgabbert.wordpress.com/

I totally agree with Dom Mason. I am afraid to tell that this project took too long to be released. If a big players like Aerosoft, Flytampa, ORBX or FSDT will start to work on CYVR,they will definitely dump Johnny’s project for sure. What a waste of time!

Even a freeware scenery developer guy like Max C. who released recently FIMP could be a serious competitor if he decides to put hands on CYVR.

    Please check his footprints: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22410

Anyway, as long as this current CYVR project is the only one in the playground, we will wait how long it takes.

    Cheers!

Ha ha! Sounds like the kids threatening grandma they’ll go next door and eat the neigbor’s cookies if hers aren’t ready soon enough. My grandmother, god rest her soul, would have torn me a new one for that attitude. I guess everyone’s different….
Free stuff that comes to you should not be rushed. That’s called sucking, and nature abhors a vacuum.
    All in good time….
