I must chime in here once more Jonathon after reading your manual. Thanks for the laugh, it’s part of this fast food generation were they want it now.We all know them by name by now, But I thank you for keeping your cool and continuing with this project..

  5. Greetings from India. I have been following your scenery for the last couple of years and if I were to be honest, at some point I’d given up hope that it will ever be out. This is the best Christmas gift ever.

I spent about a year in Vancouver during my flying training days and this is one sceney I have always wanted for FS9. Finally, it is here. There is only one word I can say for this scenery – fantabulous. It is right up there with Aerosoft’s Mega Airport Munich and even better that its free. Thanks a ton for this!

Anyway, I have a mid-power setup which can be pretty overtaxed by the large 32 textures of your scenery. So I have come up with a solution, I reduced the texture sizes of those which I think could be reduced without affecting the visuals too much. I’d like to share these resized textures for others who might be hampered from using your sceney because of this. Will that be all right?

Long time avoider, first time poster. Been following this over the years. I work right across from yvr.

I congratulate you on producing a scenery that rivals any payware scenery on the market. Your attention to detail is par none!

I did a quick flight around yvr and I am truly awe struck. You even included the build that houses the McDonald’s on Russ Baker Way, along with the Aviation World Building and MTU’s offices.

    Bravo Sir!

Atheist Indian, you should try using the DXT3 mipped version of the textures instead.. So much smoother including a good boost to frames actually and no noticeable difference in quality.

  9. Brendan said

So great to finally have this scenery!

Same as Atheist Indian, wouldn’t mind having some smaller textures. DaveH mentions the DXT3 Mipped version, where are these available? I didn’t see them in the installer or anything?

  10. @ DaveH
Thats what I’ve been doing. I have DXT3ed the 4 MB 32-bit images as well as resized some of the surroundings that I feel could be resized without affecting the visuals too much. My scenery comes up to about 400 MB now, with faster rendering. If Jon Gabbert is okay with it, I’d like to share this.

On the whole, this scenery is very light on FPS, in spite of the details put in. I wish someone picked up other Canadian airports as well (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal, etc.).

awesome! i’d just like to say thank you for all your hard work.. really! it takes a lot of sacrifice and devotion to do work like this inspite of a lot of smartass people in the community and with the risk of no reward. But on behalf of all the old time simmers! Great Job!

Amazing work Jonathan! , thank you for the huge efforts for the Flightsim Community ,and your contribution with Unique version and maybe the first serious scenery of special spot in Canada that was “hungry” for a refreshment…

and for me, it’s a giant leap for YVR and vancouver in FS…
It will be lovely to fly at last to vancouver thanks to the scenery …

Thank you again , happy holidays…. and a happy New Year…

Hi Jon, what a wonderful release for the end of the year, scoops awards at the last moment, no doubt. The screenies show so much quality, that I’m sure those awards will start appearing.

Right now I’m in no position to install it, but I’m looking forward to that day.

Best FS scenery for Canada ever released… no challengers on the horizon, commercial or otherwise. Take a bow!

I have been following your work for quite a long time now Jon and all I can say at this point is wow, Incredible work!

You sure have exceptional talent and I am so thrilled that you were able to complete your project.

I received an update newsletter from Nigel Grant the other day, he was the first to offer his talents when he released his first incarnation of YVR for FS9 back in 2003 and he had nothing but praise for you. Nigel runs an FS Club in West Vancouver.

Looks like I am going to boot my FS9 PC up and give it a try. Well done Jon.

As an avid Flight sim Helicopter pilot flying out YVR for years, it was a welcome sight that you included the transportable Helicopter dollies at the Landmark FBO. Attention to detail was not overlooked. Job well done Jon!!

    Hi Rob

Thank you for your kind words, my CYVR had a good run for its money, winning the FlightSim Develpoers Award in April 2003 for its FS2002 version.

But in no way can it compare to Jonathan’s version and I hope he goes on to win some well earned awards.

Incidentally, for anyone in the Vancouver area, my flightsim club meets the fourth Friday of the month at 10am in the West Vancouver Seniors Activity Centre, and anyone is welcome (no age restriction).
